PAINTING COMPETITION
We are please to announce our first competition, a DSA miniature painting competition!
To enter, all you need to do is email a photograph of a DSA or Armalion miniature that you have painted, or provide us with a link to a site featuring your miniature.
We will be running the competition until February 2005, to give everyone plenty of time to get hold of a miniature, (possibly as a Christmas present!) and then paint it up. The best paint job as judged by us will be the winner ( we may open this to public voting if we absolutely can't decide). There may also be runner up prizes depending upon the number of entries received, we will keep you posted.
Now for the important bit, the prizes! The winner will receive 4 Armalion Boxed sets (of 10 minis), of their choice of either Good or Evil. That's a retail value of around 110 Euros, 80 Uk pounds, or 150 US Dollars.
This competition is open to entrants from any country, we will cover shipping costs.

Hammer Award
Posted by yrret on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 (01:21:01) (977 reads)
Dodds (aka DragonsReach) at er DragonsReach.org is going to be hitting his Golden Jubilee this January, and is kicking off his wheelchair years by having a painting contest warm up. Pop over and check out his unique approach to this online contest....
The figures he has picked are historicals from the Perry Brothers, a fine pair of talented men to be sure. But I have to say... their website is a bit of a historical challenge in itself. But I won't be thwarted. I will figure it all out and enter. If only becuase Dodds is getting so damn old he might not be able to SEE miniatures for much longer. Heheh.

Great Photo Coverage of Lucca Games!
Posted by yrret on Saturday, November 06, 2004 (11:40:14) (866 reads)
Just got a note from Paulo...
Last weekend I have managed to visit the most important Italian convention, Lucca Games http://www.luccacomics.com.
If you like to see some of the best Italian painters at work just head to my site (http://www.minitaly.com/paolo/index_e.shtml) and browse the image galley to find more than 130 Images of wonderful miniatures.
Holy Crap! (I have now adopted this catchy phrase for being totally impressed. Once I adopt something, I can finally quit saying it, and think of something else.) Paulo has taken TONS of awesome pics. Truly awesome. I don't think I saw a single pic that wasn't good. Great Great stuff there. BIG KUDOS to Paulo for all the effort, I know it is a lot of work to take em, and then actually post em all. NEXT TIME PEOPLE TOO!!!

GenCon Volunteers TO THE FORE!
Posted by yrret on Monday, October 18, 2004 (00:24:05) (1942 reads)
Gen Con So Cal, December 2-5, Paint & Take Volunteers Needed!
Â
Paint & Take is a free workshop event to both introduce attendees to the mini painting hobby, and to showcase products from various manufacturers. People sign up, and when their name is called, they can sit down and paint a mini of their choice--FREE! We've got everything they need, including teachers.Â
Â
I'm desperately looking for volunteers who can help out at the So Cal Paint & Take this year. It's a new event for So Cal, but we've been running it for years at Indy. Even if you cannot paint, you can help out with sign-up, set-up and clean-up. If you can "drybrush" and handle basic "washes", you can help teach these basics to the attendees while sitting down and painting something yourself. Chat about the hobby, the techniques, or your greatest gaming moments! Become part of a great group of people showing how much fun our hobby can be.
Â
Contact Sue Wachowski for information on volunteering and just what it can get you!

Bolter and Chainsaw Painting Contest Winners
Posted by yrret on Saturday, October 16, 2004 (12:52:35) (1634 reads)
Bolter and Chainsword had a painting contest, and I even knew about it, and I forgot to post about it. I know I know. Painting contests are like free lap dances for mini painters, but what can I say?
It was a themed competition, with everyone entering Dread CON, and man there were a lot of gret entries! I shudder to think of all those bad boys were fielded on a tabletop!
Anyway, head over and see the winners on this thread... HERE
Also check out ALL the entries... HERE.

Jenova Ego Painting Contest Winners posted!
Posted by yrret on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 (03:24:54) (567 reads)
Jenova.dk has posted the winners in the Jenova Ego Contest. Some awesome entries! Sadly the closest I got to entering was buying the HassleFree Eve. (An awesome mini, that I WILL one day paint.) Head over and check em out. I really dig the tie-dye one! Oh and Inge promises that new minis are coming soon. I like her trick of getting OTHER people to paint minis for your site.

Golden Toadstool Promotion
Posted by yrret on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 (03:09:50) (552 reads)
Howdy everyone. I am just jumping in to add a few comments on the Golden Toadstools. As pretty much everyone knows, I have been working with Anthony Karl Erdelji from PaintingClinic.com and Glyn Evans from MiniPainting-Guild.net (Glyn is the caretaker of the Toadstools. He nurtured it from a little spore to what it is today) to hopefully make some improvements in the form of the gallery software, and the hosting for the gallery. The GoldenToadstools have been a big part of the MasterClassMiniaturePainters yahoo group, and it seemed that every week we were hashing out the limitations of the picture hosting and voting options on Yahoo.
I am really happy, and I must say, a little proud to be working with these guys on this project. So, even though the GoldenToadstool Painting Competition is "Moved" and Electric Ocean is hosting the gallery, the main home for the archive is at http://paintingclinic.com/goldentoadstool/gt.htm.
So for those of us that live and breathe the Toads, we have sort of a "Dual Home". Some of the posting and voting will probably be easier linking directly to the page at EO, but there are tons and tons of people out there that know them from the archive at PaintingClinic.com.
So I think it would be KILLER if everyone who has a site that has posted something in the Golden Toadstools, or who I feature in the news etc, could for just a bit put a link up to the Toads, pointing to the Painting Clinic site. The GT is great, and I think everyone should know about it!
One last note, I TOTALLY realize that the thing that makes the Toadstools what they are is the incredible particiaption of all the great painters.
OK, now I have to go work on the FAQ, or the Cool Features Page.
